The Chinese Music Teachers Association of Northern California (CMTANC) is a non-profit charitable organization. It was founded in the summer of 1992. The purpose and objectives of this organization include the following:
To promote the art of Western and Chinese Music.
To promote better understanding, appreciation, cooperation, and harmony among different peoples through musical, charitable, educational, cultural, and international exchanges and activities, thereby enriching the cultural and social dimensions of the society.
To promote the musical, academic, educational and social exchanges and communications among music teacher members, students, parents, and friends of the association, and to provide support, services, and music information to them.
To establish and operate the music resources center for acquisition, compilation, collection and dissemination of Chinese and Western music information and materials.
To sponsor scholarships.
Our yearly activities include student recitals, the CMTANC Youth Music competition, and Champion Honors Recital. Throughout the year, CMTANC also sponsors various music activities such as workshops, seminars and master classes for our members, students, parents and the community. The monthly newsletter is available and is mailed to our members regularly.
CMTANC includes three kinds of membership: active member, associate member, and friend of CMTANC.
Active member: voting member. The applicant shall be a music teacher and sponsored by at least two existing members in good standing.
Associate member: non-voting member. Non-music teacher. The applicant shall be music related professional or company.
Friend of CMTANC: non-voting member. Non-music teacher. The applicant opens to music lover who is not eligible for active member and associated member.
