SUMMARY:Frank Wiens
DESCRIPTION:Lecture: The View from the other side: Perspectives on piano teaching after 47 years \nFrank Wiens is a pianist known for his strong emotional commitment and virtuosity. His meticulous attention to detail and seemingly effortless control bring out even the most subtle musical elements. Dedicated to bringing his love of the classical piano repertoire to audiences of all levels of concert-going experience\, his “nobility of conception” (Los Angeles Times) and command of “tone color” (Fresno Bee) coupled with a “formidable technique” (Sacramento Union) have thrilled audiences on three continents. His ability to establish rapport with an audience with the spoken word is matched by the obvious sincerity with which he communicates the emotional content of each work. \nWith a performing career that has taken him to Eastern and Western Europe\, Asia\, and throughout most of the United States\, Frank Wiens has maintained an active concert career for more than four decades. Possessing a concerto repertoire of over 35 works\, he has been a frequent soloist with symphony orchestras in this country and abroad. His recitals have taken him to major cities such as London\, Warsaw\, Vienna\, Seoul\, New York and Los Angeles\, as well as to many venues where classical recitals are rarely heard. Believing that the gifts that one has been given carry social responsibility\, he has devoted a significant part of his career to benefit recitals for the homeless and most recently for victims of the northern California fires. \nFrank Wiens gave his New York debut at Carnegie Recital Hall in 1984. His London recital debut took place in May of 1986. He made his European continental debut in Vienna\, Austria in May of 1987 at the Brahms-Saal of the Musikverein. Other international performances have included a concert tour of the Soviet Union\, two such tours of South Korea\, and engagements in Romania and Poland. In the 1990-91 season Frank Wiens returned to New York with a recital in celebration of Prokofiev’s 100th birth anniversary. Frank Wiens was invited to tour the Soviet Union in April of 1991 in numerous solo and orchestral engagements as part of the celebrations of the 100th anniversary in Prokofiev’s native land. \nIn the fall of 1994 Frank Wiens travelled to Bratislava\, Slovakia\, to record a compact disc including the Rachmaninoff Third Concerto with the Slovakia National Orchestra and the Rachmaninoff Sonata No. 1. The CD was released internationally in 1995 on the Fanfare-Intersound label. \nLate in 2006\, Frank Wiens appeared as soloist with the Orchestra “Dinu Lipatti” in Romania\, and  gave a pair of recitals devoted to the music of Chopin at the Chopin Academy and at the Lazienki Palace on Water in Warsaw\, Poland. \nFrank Wiens won first prize in the North American Young Artists Competition and the Southwest Pianists Foundation Competition. He has performed as soloist with the Atlanta\, Denver and Detroit Symphonies\, and has been a touring artist with the Iowa Arts Council and the California Arts Council. \nIn addition to his active performance schedule\, Frank Wiens has established a strong reputation as a trusted teacher and mentor of younger talent\, and served as an adjudicator in many important competitions including the Gina Bachauer International Competition. He was on the piano faculty at Drake University\, and since 1976 has been at the University of the Pacific Conservatory of Music\, where he received the Research-Lecturer Award and Distinguished Faculty Award. \nIn 2009 he was the recipient of the Stockton Arts Commission’s award for Outstanding Achievement in Music. \nA native of New Haven\, Connecticut\, Frank Wiens lives in Stockton\, California with his wife\, mezzo-soprano Lynelle Frankforter Wiens. In his spare time he enjoys playing golf and trying his hand at gourmet cooking.

SUMMARY:3/30/2019 USIMC 美國國際音樂大賽募款音樂會
DESCRIPTION:今年美國國際音樂大賽募款音樂會系列之一將於7:00pm\, 週六3/30，假Fremont 基督教衛理公會舉辦一場別出新裁的音樂會\n「Jazzy Life\n爵對好聽」\n温隆信爵士專輯巡演與四爪樂團\nDavid Wen with\nSi Zhou Jazz Quartet \nFor ticket info:\nwww.CMTANC.org or\nwww.USIMC.org\nText : 510-219-9877 \n  \n \n溫隆信出生於1944年台北市. \n演出曲目：「爵對好聽」「爵妙慢板」專輯選曲 \n(1) Presenter:   Clap&Tap Chamber Orchestra \n(2) Performer:  David L. Wen and Jazz Quartet “Si-Zhua” \n(3) Program:  《Jazzy Heart》《Jazzy Adagio》

SUMMARY:piano masterclass\, Inna Faliks
DESCRIPTION:Detail Program \n“Adventurous and passionate” (The New Yorker) Ukrainian-born American pianist Inna Faliks has established herself as one of the most exciting\, committed\, communicative and poetic artists of her generation.  Faliks has made a name for herself through her commanding performances of standard piano repertoire\,  as well genre-bending interdisciplinary projects\, and inquisitive work with contemporary composers.  After her acclaimed teenage debuts at the Gilmore Festival and with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra\, she has performed on many of the world’s great stages\, with numerous orchestras\, in solo appearances\, and with conductors such as Leonard Slatkin and Keith Lockhart.  Faliks is currently Professor of Piano and Head of Piano at UCLA.   Critics praise her “courage to take risks\, expressive intensity and technical perfection” (General Anzeiger\, Bonn)\, “remarkable insight” (Audiophile audition) “poetry and panoramic vision” (Washington Post)\, “riveting passion\, playfulness” (Baltimore Sun) and “signature blend of lithe grace and raw power” (Lucid Culture.) Her October 2014 all-Beethoven CD release on MSR classics drew rave reviews: the disc’s preview on WTTW called Faliks “High priestess of the piano\, concert pianist of the highest order\, as dramatic and subtle as a great stage actor.”   Her previous\, critically acclaimed CD on MSR Classics\, Sound of Verse\, was released in 2009\, featuring music of Boris Pasternak\, Rachmaninoff and Ravel. Her discography also includes a recital recording for the Yamaha Disklavier label\, Chopin solo and cello sonatas recording with cellist Wendy Warner\, and well as “Polonaise-Fantasie\, Story of a Pianist” for Delos – a recital of short piano works from Bach to Chopin and Carter\, combined with autobiographical essays written by Faliks. \nMs. Faliks’s distinguished career has taken her to thousands of recitals and concerti throughout the US\, Asia\, Europe and the Middle East.  Highlights  of the recent seasons include performances in Ravinia Festival and the National Gallery in DC\, recital tours of China\, with appearances in all the major halls such as Beijing Center for Performing Arts\, Shanghai Oriental Arts Theater and Tianjin Grand Theater\, as well as acclaimed performances at the Festival Intenacional de Piano in Mexico\,  in the Fazioli Series in Italy and in Israel’s Tel Aviv Museum\, at Portland Piano Festival and with the Camerata Pacifica\, with the modern dance troupe Bodytraffic at the Broad Stage Santa Monica\, and Jacaranda Series in Los Angeles\, where she performed Rzewski’s The People United Will Never Be Defeated. Faliks has been featured on WQXR\, WNYC\, WFMT and many international television broadcasts\, and has performed in many other major venues\, such as Carnegie Hall’s Weill Concert Hall\,  Metropolitan Museum of Art\, Paris’ Salle Cortot\, Chicago’s Symphony Center\, Moscow’s Tchaikovsky Hall and in many important festivals such as Verbier\, Newport\, Portland International\, Music in the Mountains\, Mondo Musica Cremona\, Brevard\, Taos\, International Keyboard Festival in NYC\, Bargemusic\, and Chautauqua. \nShe is regularly engaged as a concerto soloist nation-wide: recent appearances include Beethoven 4th with Minnesota Sinfonia\, Peninsula Festival \, where she played the 1st and 3rd Prokofiev Concerti in the same half of the program with Victor Yampolsky\,  Rachmaninoff 2nd concerto with Dmitry Sitkovetsky and Greensboro Symphony Gershwin Project with Daniel Meyer and the Erie Symphony\, Clara Schumann Concerto at Wintergreen Festival\, Robert Schumann Concerto with Miami Symphony. Her long-standing relationship with WFMT radio has led to multiple broadcasts of Music/Words\, which she had produced alongside some of the nation’s most recognized poets in performances throughout the United States. An artist known for his versatility\, Faliks is equally at home with standard repertoire\, rare and new music\, and interdisciplinary performances.  She recently co-starred with Downton Abbey star Lesley Nicol in “Admission – One Shilling” \,a play for pianist and actor about the life of Dame Myra Hess\, the great British pianist.  Most recently\, she is touring with her autobiographical recital-monologue\, “Polonaise-Fantasie\, the Story of a Pianist” throughout the US and Canada.  Constantly in dialogue with today’s composers\, she has had works composed for her by Timo Andres\, Billy Childs\, Richard Danielpour\, Paola Prestini\, Ljova\, Clarice Assad\, Peter Golub\, and many more.
