We are pleased to host a special event with Left Bend Winery for our members and their spouses to learn the basic of wine tasting appreciation and enjoyment.
Why Wine? Wine-tasting and listening to music pair well. First, both are perceived by a ‘hidden’ sense, hearing and tasting. Second, wine- tasting and music are both about metaphor. When speaking of wines we use words and phrases such as: silky, lingering, intense, vanilla and spices. And with music, we speak of golden sunsets, cold solitude, remorse, lush colors, moments in time. Nonetheless wine and music are matters of serious human concern and affection. Classical music is an art to enjoy, explore, and savor. Just as you can explore the palette of your taste buds, you can explore the palette of your ears. This wine tasting will allow you to find the connection between sounds and tasting.
Left Bend Winery is a boutique winery focused on the Santa Cruz Mountains, one of California’s oldest and most famous wine regions. Left Bend crafts high quality hand made wine since 2010. They have recently opened an urban wine tasting room in downtown Los Gatos. Owner, Richard Hanke, will provide a brief insight to the art of wine tasting. Speech starts at 4:15 to 4:45.
Richard Hanke
speaker and partner of LEFT BEND WINERY Richard Hanke joined Left Bend Winery in 2013. After retiring from a high-tech career in Silicon Valley, Richard took up cycling, starting with a tour across the United States, followed by numerous tours in California. On a trip through Calistoga, Richard stopped at Chateau Montelena and has been in love with wine and California wine history ever since. On his daily rides in the Santa Cruz Mountains, Richard was impressed with the amount of vines planted locally, and then discovered the historic Ridge Winery on one of his favorite climbs, Montebello Road. Like Chateau Montelena, Ridge also participated in the famous “Judgment of Paris” and is a testament to the wine quality found in the Santa Cruz Mountains viticulture region.
Richard Hanke met Gary Robinson, Left Bend Winemaker, through a local cycling club and believed that he has a deep knowledge and experience in fine wine making. Since joining Left Bend, Richard has been in charge of corporate functions, charity events and the operation of Left Bend tasting room in Los Gatos.
