Ya Liang Chang, D.M.A./NCTM, is an active pedagogue, adjudicator, and concert pianist. Dr. Chang has received invitations from and presented pedagogical sessions and lecture-recitals at both national and international conferences that include various Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) State Conferences, University Pedagogy Symposiums, Music Teachers’ Association of California (MTAC) Branches Programs, and Convention, as well as International Society for Music Education 31st World Conference.
As an avid pedagogue, Dr. Chang’s innovative teaching practice emphasized tension-free techniques that help students move freely on the piano and enhance their musicality. Her most well-known Fundamental Techniques workshop, which has three sequences that cover from elementary to advanced levels, has been featured frequently in both national and regional conferences and pedagogy seminars. Dr. Chang teaches pedagogy seminars regularly for teacher organizations that include a three-year piano pedagogy sequence program for the MTAC Santa Clara Branch starting in 2019. She has contributed ideas and presented for California State University East Bay Pedagogy Symposium since 2017.

Dr. Chang is frequently invited to adjudicate at various competitions that included the OMTA/Graves collegiate piano competition, Miami University Music Department concerto competition, Tr-Stae Piano Concerto competition, and OMTA/SW Buckeye pre-college piano competition, as well as MTNA, affiliated States Collegiate and pre-college competitions, piano auditions, and students evaluations.
